Published 30/05/2011 by KaLpUrUsH

Avro is a popular Unicode supported bangla keyboard. You can use Avro with SCIM input method in Fedora. There is no rpm file for Avro keyboard. So you can’t install Avro keyboard from repo. To install Avro in Fedora you have to compile the sorce code.

Here I describe how you can install Avro in Fedora.

To install Avro you should need some package, and these are:

scim scim-bridge scim-m17n scim-tables scim-tables-additional scim-devel gcc gcc-c++ make

To install this package just open your terminal be root and give the following command

yum install -y scim scim-bridge scim-m17n scim-tables scim-tables-additional scim-devel gcc gcc-c++ make

You will need xvnkb-scim-unikey-0-2.i386.rpm package. But it is not in repo. So to download and install give these command

wget ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/ftp.sourceforge.net/pub/sourceforge/t/project/to/toysbox/xvnkbScimUnikey/xvnkb-scim-unikey-0-2.i386.rpm

rpm -ivh xvnkb-scim-unikey-0-2.i386.rpm

Now download Avro keyboard’s source file.
To download give this command in your terminal

wget http://scim-avro.googlecode.com/files/scim-avro-0.0.2.tar.gz

After complete the download give following command to install Avro.

tar -xvf scim-avro-0.0.2.tar.gz

cd scim-avro-0.0.2

./configure

make

make install

Avro installation finished.

Now you have to enable keyboard. To enable follow this procedure.

System -> Preferences -> Input Method Selector

select Use SCIM

click on Input Method Preference

Im Engine > Global Setup >Disable all >

Select Bengali
Select on Expand
Select on Avro in Bengali

Scim will be need to restart. So restart your pc. after restart your pc when you need the bangla keyboard just hit Ctrl+Spacebar
